HISTORY
1989
Roscommon Disability Support Group (R.S.G), an innovative self-help group was established, by people with disabilities for people with disabilities. In a very short time thereafter, it was found that there was a need to develop the organisation to also become a Service Provider, which has gone from strength to strength by virtue of demand. The organisation’s Service Provision covers County Roscommon and surrounding areas.
1995
The Group formed a limited company limited by guarantee, and attained charitable status. It operates as a properly constituted company and is known as the Roscommon Disability Support Group. The voluntary organisation still operates with some of its founder members. The range of services have expanded over the years to include Service Provision/Support and Information Service to older people and children as well as people with disabilities, families, carers and the wider community. RSG has developed from a growing need within the community and services have increased as more and more state funding became available.
1996
Roscommon Disability Support Group formed an Independent Living Service to promote independence for people of all ages and abilities to enable them to become more participating members of the wider community.
